I hate everything.

I’ve been recording with Sean of Envelope Peasant since 2004 or so, working toward the completion of his pop album. I think that over this time, we’ve amassed some twenty plus songs. Today I am sitting here at Dig Studio and we’re starting to work the first mix of this huge batch, a song called “Better Listener”. This is very exciting. I know Sean is excited. Hopefully that excitement will come through in the mix.

Twenty-some songs? Thus far, this album, or double album, or maxi-ep should be pretty all-over-the-map, production wise, personnel wise, and stylistically. The songs are certainly compelling to work with and we’ve been having a great time with it. I’m not sure entirely how to describe the Envelope Peasant in terms of sound. Sean is a songwriter so there’s that component; songs are a definite factor. Hooks are clearly another factor. Instrumentation. There’s like an indie rock Americana thing with a psychic emotional lyrical content for sure. Sean has a huge canon of work between his various bands and so his voice is unique and established as it’s own thing.

Sean writes songs for Harvester and Dearest, Crown. He was once in The Vertels back in California and the Envelope Peasant is his solo identity, I guess. This project has, as I said, been going on since 2004 or so and part of the reason is because Sean moved from Portland back to Chico, California a few years back. Recently, the fire has been lit and it’s all happening, the album is getting finished. Equilibrium of the universe can once again be restored. Class M Planets will perform with the Envelope Peasant Saturday March 13th in Chico, CA at cafe Flo.
